This famous castle is the seat of the Hohenzollern Dynasty, both of the prussian-brandenburg and of the electoral-catholic line.
The first castle on top of the hill Zoller got first mentioned in 1267, but it got completely destroyed by 1423. From 1454 onwards construction of the second castle started, stronger than the first one. Because of the 30 Years War it got turned into a fortress. Through the centuries it disintegrated more and more since the owners didn't do repairs as intensive as needed. By the beginning of the 19th century it was no more as a ruin.
From 1850 on King Wilhelm Friedrich IV (King of Prussia, and of the Hohenzollern) began repairs of the castle and turned it into one of the most impressive castles in Germany.
