Here we were on a trip going to Marbach on the Neckar, and to Waiblingen, just making a small tour in the closer region.
Waiblingen is one of the old cities of the duchy Wirtemberg (later Kingdom, now part of the Land Baden-Württemberg), and crade of several german Emperors, like Emperor Friedrich I (Barbarossa) was born in Waiblingen in 1122. He was Duke of Schwaben, roman-german King (rex romanorum) and Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire.
In the 17th century it got almost completely destroyed during the 30 year war and it took a long time for Waiblingen to get back to its former size - around 150 years!
Today Waiblingen is a small city north of Stuttgart, with around 50000 citizens, a district town, with a nice old town. It lies on the 'Deutsche Fachwerkstraße' (a road connecting cities with old half-timbered houses (Fachwerk), similar to the Romantische Straße, with Heidelberg and Schloß Neuschwanstein).
